Something I’ve been wanting to blog about for awhile is in the investment you place in yourself.

Bad news – not everything is free, despite all the freemium tools out there, you could find something for everything, but eventually you’d run into limits and problems and start getting all – “well I can only do 5 posts of these a week because then I hit my cap” – really?  That is what is going to limit your potential genius being released is a cap on a tool that is for free?

And aren’t you worth the investment?

So, like anything, I wanted to use myself as an example, how much do I invest in myself?

  1. Dropbox – $144/year – Why?  I have a lot of files and I don’t want to get into the habit of always pulling stuff down here to make room to put new stuff up here.  This way I have no excuse, everything is written to dropbox, I have everything I need with 1TB of storage.
  2. LinkedIn Premium – $120/year – Why?  How I reach out to people, how I see who is reaching out to me, this is the connection platform that links everything and anything.
  3. SkypeCondition.com – $129/year – Why?  This is my blogging site for all things Skype For Business for which I am a Microsoft MVP (2 years running, just awarded).  I want to keep this going strong and not get into messing around with funny domains.
  4. CrmCondition.com – $129/year – Why?  I blog on Dynamics CRM activities as well, so there is that, again see above.
  5. Rambli.com – $200/year – Why?  Yes the price is a little higher, but I get a number of other services with it that I don’t use at my other sites, plus this is me, this is who I am and this is where I get all my thoughts out.
  6. Books – $200/year – Why?  I don’t read as much as I should, I should read more, I am trying to get better.  But think of this as items that could be training books, podcasts, etc that help me get better.  Some other incidentals might be in here such as trying out new presentation deck styles, presentation pointers, etc.
  7. Art Supplies – $100/year – Why?  Pencils, paper, etc  It’s an investment to get better at drawing.

So, there you have it, a grand total of $1,022 a year is spent on investing in myself.  Let’s round that up to an even $1,025.  Does that seem like a lot?  How many days in a year?  365?  That works out to $2.80 a day that I invest in myself.

So now the question you need to ask yourself, are you worth the $3 investment a day?
