A while ago I lost an award I held for a few years. I went through all the emotions you generally go through when this happens. The one I didn’t think I’d find was a new path and direction to accomplish a new set of goals. I guess the old adage is true – “one door closes and many more can open” – it’s simply a case of whether you want to go through it.

Same advice, different day. But sometimes we all need it delivered to our inbox, facebook, linkedin, twitter, instagram, whatever. If you want something done, the best way to get it done is to sit down and do it. That is all.

Without no context or information? It’s becoming harder to do so. Want to know what provides you with a better chance of spotting the fake? Learning the Landscape before the big meeting, reading the architecture doc before it is approved, understanding the reasons why the team was really late on that last release. We have all the information at our fingertips to spot the fake before it’s too late. We are simply choosing not to…

Meet with your team. Spend an hour with each person. Get to know them. Understand what makes them produce all the great work that they do. Understand what ticks them off. Rinse and Repeat with every person on your team. Once you’ve done that, come up with a plan that addresses their weaknesses and leverages their strengths. If you have yet to do this, do it now.
