Building software for a community is a very tricky thing to do.

Primarily because it involves much more than building a product.

When you are building for a community you want to be able to engage with them, take feedback on what is and isn’t working and what needs to be there in the next release.

Your role takes on more of a “here is our product” to a “here is a product, how can I help you set it up, if you have problems call me, what are your thoughts” kind of implementation.

Building for a Community is hard because it requires a level of engagement most are not familiar with and requires a time investment that most would rather put into the product.

That’s okay – what’s important to for you to realize is simply putting it “out there” will not be good enough if you want to make an impact to join and/or lead a community.
