AIs promise is to save time for the good things in life. To do that, we need to give it carefully crafted prompts and assignments for it to do its work. In some cases, we pay AI to do this work for us, and we hope AI is up to the task. If you want to rank who is an expert in your company from 1 to n, you might be surprised where you land. This happens because we invariably rank ourselves in the context of the skills that we have, and not the skills that we need to have and/or don’t have. I.e., when you rank yourself, you’re ranking yourself against your own yardstick, not everyone else’s. Right now, we are working towards finding the perfect gift for those special people in our lives. We are all starting early, trying as hard as we can to get a jump on things. But we all know, it will be a last-minute scramble. Some of us do our best work late with our back against the wall. All I ever think of, though, is that the right gift is always what the person isn’t asking for. And it takes the longest to find.

You start off with a pile of work, and all you start doing is shovelling through them, you don’t stop, you just keep going and keep plowing through. You dig and you dig and you don’t stop digging. Then you’re partway there, the light is faint, but it is there. So you keep digging. And towards the end, you’re almost there, and then you decide to pull back, stretch, relax. There it is, the truth, you will… always… miss… something. The goal is not to miss the big things, the things that matter most to you in life. It’s probably a combination of work and personal, as is the case with most everyone else. Missing a conference, missing a post, missing what someone else is doing. Doesn’t matter, you can’t see it all, and you need to stop trying to do. Zero in, focus on what you don’t want to miss, ignore the fluff, it’s just noise.
