Stop Solutioning

I think this term is used in reference to someone who is trying to “codify” a solution when they are not a coder. I more prefer to think of it as someone who is trying to fix something without knowing what the problem is – so they “solution” away – hoping to get there at some point.

Manage Your Own Drive

I don’t know when we started expecting to have training provided by people and organizations for us. It’s a bonus, it’s a great bonus, but at the end of the day, their investment in your career is partially dictated by the needs that they have for their organization. What do I have to do to get Better?

People ask this question all the time. What their real question is – “How do I get better than everyone else quicker?” Sure, there probably is. Listen to what has and has not worked. And then, ask questions, get feedback on your approach, what are you doing that works and what are you doing that is not. Or, keep doing what you’re doing and hope you figure it out at some point.  You probably will… at some point… or you might never… all you had to do was ask.

I Built a Frankenstein

And so should you. If you’ve never built a Frankenstein, you’ve never had to solve a problem that forced you to use all of your skills and knowledge in a particular area. You never had that moment of going – “well it doesn’t look like much, but it works”. Frankesteins get built when everyone around you goes – “can’t be done, this is impossible, it won’t work” – and then you do it. Build a Frankenstein, proudly proclaim it for what it is and then start the next one – even bigger than before.
