The Coaching Toolbox

Whether it’s professional, recreational or personal we are all at some point in our lives coaches to other, helping those that work with us, look up to us or perhaps have even paid for our services – we are coaches – formal or informal. As coaches, we have the experience, we have the knowledge, we have the game play all wrapped up in our head.  We know the stats, we know what has worked and we know the drills. This is our toolbox. Inventing is the sincerest form of flattery

It’s easy to see what someone is doing, take what has worked well, copy it and try to reproduce that success.  But it’s not going to happen. Why? Turn on the TV, go to the game, watch a Pitcher take the mound and get ready to throw the ball at 97mph at the batter.  They spend

All things being equal…

is a horrible statement, because ALL things are never equal and will NEVER be equal. When you say this, you are effectively watering down your argument for whatever solution you might be proposing by acknowledging that  your solution can only ever be evaluated against the current solution (or another proposal) and conditions where all things are equal. But in life – nothing is EVER equal.  We all know it – this is nothing new.  And I will tell you right now, I don’t want the solution that must be equal, I want something that is greater than equal.  You want
