There is always an opportunity to teach. A failed attempt. A bad deployment. A missed requirement. A wrong code path. A performance review gon awry. A deadline missed. The question is whether you are going to turn all those opportunities into a moment or let them pass you by for someone else to take the lead and do so.

You cannot deliver if you don’t know your users. You cannot lead if you don’t know the members of your team. You cannot initiate a new process if you don’t understand the impact the disruption will have on those who use it. You cannot drive if you don’t know where you are heading. You cannot grow if you do not know your audience.
