Lean On

Now, more than ever, in this discombobulation of a year, we all need to find someone to lean on. Someone to be your confidant. Someone to be your lead. Someone to stand with you. Whether work or in life, we all need someone, it’s human nature. And if you’re leading a team and you see someone has no one to lean on, be that person for them.

You Don’t Need to Have the Answer

You do need to have the drive to find it. No one has all the answers, anyone who thinks they do is wrong (on oh so many levels). But if you are willing to dig in and do what it takes to find the answer. That’s better than reading it and regurgitating it at a meeting or waiting for someone to give it to you.

There is a phrase people don’t want to hear too much. Accountability. Years ago, I remember hearing my former team complaining about a session they had to have with an external trainer on “Accountability” and how it bothered them so much. “We were told we had to start owning what we worked on.” Even though they already were, the hidden message they were all reading was – “We have to start owning what we work on and everything that came before us” – which is impossible.
