The Biggest Impact

What will give your team the biggest impact today? What will make the biggest difference to what they are working on today? What will result in fewer calls coming into your support queue today? What will save developers the most time in building code? What will change how you do things? Focus on that, we all need something big to show progress against.

Your Most Critical Release

The smallest fix is the most critical release you will make to your software. It is the most critical because it is the most overlooked. “I ran it on my machine.” “It’s just this one isolated thing.” “It won’t affect anyone.” “We don’t have to tell anyone we’re deploying it.” Because it’s small we decide (for some odd reason) to treat it differently than our most significant releases and as such when something goes wrong, it generally stems from those mini releases (hotfixes, patches, service packs) than the big ones. Treat your smallest releases with the same fervor and dedication

Do we Still Need Meeting Rooms?

Yes. Or maybe it’s an area and not a room. We’ve been pretty flexible over the last few years where we met and got together and now we need to get back to doing that again when we are all together once more or when some of us are and some of us aren’t. The key to remember, which was always the problem before we went remote, was to ensure that everyone on board is included in whatever meeting you set up. The first step might be sitting down with your team and figuring out what that is before going

We Still Need Remote Leaders

We still need Remote Leaders. Leaders that lay the foundation and groundwork for what everyone in the team needs to do; Show up on time and prepared. Let people know in advance when you are away. Chart the path between schedules. Minimize distractions and maintain focus and priority. Engage in meaningful growth and dialogue through One-On-Ones and Team Development. Ensure your team is getting the training you need. Being a remote leader is the hardest, if you can master that, being on-site is an in-person execution of what you are already doing.  Fail to do that and you’re starting from

A Workable Space

All our spaces are changing. Where we work, where we live, what we do when we are there. They are changing into something different that enables us to define the area where we are at our best and most productive. And productivity is key to a workable space.  The bean bag chairs never did it for me unless I was using one app to do one thing where I could sit there and type. But if you want me to crank out work at a minimum of 100%, the bean bag/coffee table isn’t going to make me my most Productive.
