Can you fix a water heater?

Can you fix your furnace?

Can you fix the pump that brings water into your house?

Maybe 60 years ago, people knew how to fix all these things; now, maybe you are down to being able to fix one, troubleshoot the other, and not even touch the third.

Unless, of course, you’re specialized in those things – in which case, congratulations. So many people have stopped wanting to learn and figure out how those things work that you are now an indispensable resource to understanding how these things work, being able to translate the problem into a language that people will understand, and ultimately being able to fix them.

That is where we are with AI today, it’s the new Mechanical, where some people get it and are embedded within it, others are learning it and trying to see how it fits in their world, and others are looking for people to take it on and fix for them.

Which are you?
