Who Do We Want to be When We Grow Up?

This is the best way to start off a discussion with your team that in one simple question posits three in their own mind. Where are we now? Where do we want to go? Are we taking the right steps to get there? It’s the kick-off to any discussion on who you want to your team to be and how you want them to do it. It’s Not Leading if No one is Following

If you’re working with a team and no one is following you then you haven’t done the work necessary to reach them. If you haven’t done the work necessary to reach them, then you are focusing on the wrong things. If you are focusing on the wrong things, your team doesn’t know what to work on next. If your team doesn’t know what to focus on next, they are going to produce “meh” work. If you want to elevate them to doing great work, you’re going to have to get them follow you. Cycles never go out of style.
