You’re Avoiding This

Seriously, you are. The work you know has to be done, the work that is getting closer and closer to being needed, you’re avoiding it. Fortunately, the options for what you should do with it next are pretty simple; Don’t do it, but instead of avoiding it, tell people you aren’t going to do it so they can plan for that work. Keep doing what you are doing and deal with the fallout when it comes. Stop what you are doing, put on a timer, focus on it for 30 minutes, and just get started. Note: #3 has the potential

Time and Space

The goal is always to maximize space to get things done in time – setting yourself up for success with the right tools, working with the right people, and knowing who does what best and where people can be the most productive. Creating this space reduces stress, anxiety, and confusion when the time crunch hits.  When the time crunch hits, there shouldn’t be a problem because everyone knows what their space is and how it relates to the team’s space. Good vs Great

The difference between Good and Great is the outcome. Good talent focus on the outcome, the outcome is all that matters, the prize at the end, the bonus, the award, the gift. Great talent focuses on the work to be done knowing the outcome will take care of itself.  If the work happens, everything else will fall into place. System of One

We all have our own Systems that we use to do things. I.e., how we structure our files, create new projects, do error handling, log errors, etc. It generally gets the response of – “that’s just how I do it”. When you’re running Solo, the System of One works great because the only evaluating party is yourself is you. You get to decide whether it’s worth it or not, how it helps you, and what value you get from it. What Path do you Seek?

You can probably do many things – and are great at all of them. It doesn’t mean you should be doing all of them… because you probably don’t have the cycles to do all of them as well as you can if you were focused on just a few. When you look at successful training programs – Salesforce, Google – they break their training down into manageable paths focused on answering the one key question – “Where is your Focus?” You can’t run all paths at once, pick the few that will help you succeed.
