When starting something new, the immediate desire is sustenance – make enough money to then be able to focus on what you REALLY want or need to do.

In short, start off being everything to everyone, in order to stabilize and grow, in essence – go horizontal across all markets.

This is fine, as long as you are honest with yourself about the timeline and investment to operate that way.

Is it 6 months, 2 years, 5 years?

Or, you can focus on the vertical now, the niche, the market, the where you really want to be working.

It might be slower, it might take longer but it has the advantage of forcing your hand, of being hungry, of having to focus in only a few areas and having to work hard to find the tricks and hacks that can make it work.  This is

Getting started in a vertical market is much harder than starting in the horizontal market – and there is no right answer – the key is knowing which is which before you start.
