Because it’s hard. Because it’s the work that matters. Because sometimes when you try, you’ll fail (and people hate that). Because it’s the kick that takes you from meh to great. Because it’s the work that raises your game and makes people notice. Because if it was easy lifting, everyone would be doing it. But you’re not everyone.

Whether you’re a manager, lead, CTO, VP, Director or any other position that requires you to lead a team, the fundamentals of what is needed you are the same. People – my team, the team around me, what do they need from me, how do I support them? Product – what are we building, software for customers, software for our company, everything is a product? Partner – who do I work with, who do we…

Whether it’s the new connection you are reaching out to. The social media post to your customers. The interview you are sitting in. The request for more resources. The push for more experiments. Whatever the ask is. Trim the superficial from it altogether, boil it down to what you are trying to achieve, start there and keep it as authentic as possible. It might be as simple as – “I need help…”. Now you’re getting…

I didn’t know this had become a job that time was set aside and prioritized in order to accomplish. Nothing wrong with watching whatever but to place this on the same pedestal as a goal you want to achieve. Seems a little out of place. (Just don’t go blaming Netflix when things go sideways with what you really want to achieve).

When we stopped asking for it. Because it made us too uncomfortable. Too vulnerable. Confused. Frustrated. Unsure of ourselves. Apprehensive. These are all valid reasons to denying yourself. Or maybe they’re the launchpad you’ve been waiting for, but are too afraid to ask for.
