They get you on the Browsing

Social Media isn’t really that bad. Post some updates. Take some pictures. Tag some people. Even with the pickiest of personalities, you can do that in under 10 minutes – tops. But, the browsing, the scrolling, the waiting to load, the fetching – that’s where it gets you, that’s where it drags you down and makes you question everything you are doing and the why of it all. Have you ever had that dream? You did it all wrong, every decision you ever made was wrong, everything you were currently working on was wrong. And then you woke up, put in your best game and realized that it wasn’t all wrong. Perhaps you were even a bit ahead of the game? Stop being your worst critic, start being your biggest cheerleader.

Make it Fast

Because if it’s not fast, it’s not worthwhile. Because if it’s not fast, the customer won’t buy it. Because if it’s not fast, someone else’s will be. Because if it’s not fast, that means it’s not good. There are so many other ways to measure what you build for someone.  Performance is good, but it’s not the only metric. Don’t let your work be evaluated by one metric and make sure everyone knows all the others that are available.

Manage Your Own Drive

I don’t know when we started expecting to have training provided by people and organizations for us. It’s a bonus, it’s a great bonus, but at the end of the day, their investment in your career is partially dictated by the needs that they have for their organization. Don’t be confused with thinking your employer is your trainer, what training, what plans, what everything you want to achieve is up to you. It’s not their job to ensure you hit your goals… it’s still yours.

What’s your End game?

Your end goal. Your final destination. The point of it all. Where you want to go. What you want to achieve. All of it. What’s your end game? It’s completely normal not to know what your end game is.  It’s another matter altogether to complain that you’re not achieving your end game when you don’t even know what it is, to begin with.
