How fast is the system? How many hours did you work? How many bugs are still open? How long is the Sprint? When can we ship? How many tickets are closed? How many users can we handle? It’s all a numbers game, the value, your value, is providing the context around those numbers so the numbers are not taken at face value for what they are outside of what you are doing. And if your value is in providing the context, why are you so focused on gathering the numbers?

There are no more linear paths anymore. Take two people in the same job and guaranteed they did not take the same path to get there. Even if they went to the same school, in the same program, they probably did a different placement, or took a course during the summer or a different set of electives which shaped their path differently. Or perhaps they taught themselves all the magic and conjured up their own direction. Whichever way you go, the path is up to you and shouldn’t be compared to others.

I can get into the coding zone. I can get into the coaching zone. I can get into the process delivery zone. But man, getting into that creative zone, especially when I’m tired, had a long day, and my mind is filled with questions – that takes work. Odd that it takes work to get into a zone where I can be creative and do something different. If your team is struggling to get into a zone, figure out what they need to get there and get it for them. We all know how successful we are in those moments

Building a Great Team is about finding complementary pieces that make your group stronger than if they were alone. You don’t need 4 full-stack developers, you need two front-end, a middle, and a back-end developer – and you don’t need to full those requirements with four AIs hoping they crank out something that is amazing. Maybe not that precise mix but you get the idea, you don’t need drones, you need people, and you need perspectives and approaches that can grow your team. AI will never be a great team, it might be components, but it won’t be THE great
