A team needs principles, tenets, values, a mantra, a song, a theme…

They need something they can get behind, something they can always fall back on when they are not sure what to do.

If you’re making one for your team, some thoughts;

  • Don’t do it by yourself – it can be a great team exercise.
  • Keep it digestible – a page, a print-out, something that can be viewed everywhere and anywhere and doesn’t require scrolling to “get to it”.
  • Call Back to It – Don’t just talk to it, call back to it every single time you are doing work that relates to it.  This is what it’s about, embody it.
  • Do it Now – don’t hold off on doing it, it doesn’t have to be perfect the first time, perfection never arrives, but waiting for perfection never does.

Now start.
