Take the Reigns

It’s pretty easy to say – “if no one is leading, then become the leader and take control”. It’s another thing to do it. There is most likely no prescribed guidance for the situation you are in so someone talking about how they did this for that probably would not work for you. So what do you do? Take a no-holds-barred approach, kick everyone out of the room and do your own thing? Try and see if you can deliver all that work on your own? Maybe it’s not about you taking the reigns, but picking them up and showing your

The Kick-Off

There are always two competing agendas occurring at a Project Kick-Off. The Customer I want it yesterday, here is everyone you need to meet, start delivering. You (the Developer) I’d like to tell you how we’re going to delivering your project. From the onset, they are in disagreement because one is driven by immediacy and the other by a pragmatic approach. Don’t Fear the Success

Fear the whole “I didn’t think I was good enough, so I never tried because I was worried that if I did try and something went right well then what would I do right?  I mean here I would be with all this success, but would they think I’m a fake or a fraud or worst would they laugh at all my little mistakes and point them out to me like some kind of amateur or would I sit here agonizing over it myself, hoping that someday, one day I would maybe try again and be perfect?” Horribly written, very

Working Angry?

Can you do it? Can you actually work angry? Draw angry? Code angry? Practice angry? Write angry? Create angry? I don’t think you/we can.  I think it’s near impossible.  I think anger can give us a push in the direction to do something, to make something happen, to not give up when it’s all we want to do. But I don’t think we can do all those things angry for the simple reason that when you sit down to work, you take a deep breath, say your mantra and get to it – and everything else falls away. Anger might

Why not to Listen to the Critics

Before it’s weekend release, the movie Venom (not released by Marvel) received a 30% rating right as audiences were going in the door. At the end of the weekend, it broke all records for an October weekend earning $80+ million. If ever there was an example to not listen to the critics, to do your own thing, to buck the trends, to try something new… this is it. Fun Fact: The Audience Score for Venom was 89% having liked it. Don’t let the Critics get you down.
