Moving Day

Whether it’s an office, a place of residence, a new job, school, whatever – Moving Day is always an exciting day. It’s the day where you take your “stuff” from Point A to Point B. And when you get to Point B, you get to change how you set it up before, you get to try something different, you get to rearrange everything. Moving Day shakes up the status quo in a way that keeps the familiar around us but tries something new we’re not sure of.

Where Developers Go to Retire

There are many stories of developers retiring and going into the forest, dropping all technology behind them and just being with nature. I don’t think this is true for just developers but for any job where there is a great deal of complexity that lives within our minds where the simple task of “dumping” everything out is cathartic and our minds are left to wander. Oddly enough, part way through emptying my wandering mind I find myself thinking of different apps I could build, solutions to problems I’ve had, ideas on where to go next that they come back so

Can you work from there?

There are places I cannot work for a prolonged time from; Coffee shops. Cottage. Airports (or on a plane). etc (in places like the above). Too many distractions, too much pull into too many directions.  I can wake up early in the morning and crank out productivity in the lobby of a hotel for hours while those around me get ready for the day.  I can pull it together at a customer site as they meet in the next room. But I have led teams where people worked best at coffee shops or in a bustling airport. If your team

The regulars are the ones that show up every day. When times are good, when times are tough, when you’re flying high, or when you’re at the bottom, the regulars always show up for you, each and every day. They can be your family, your childhood friend, or the co-worker that you have kept in touch with year after year.
