Plan your Demos

I’m a big fan of doing demos on the fly.  Fire up the compiler, and show people what you’ve done. They are meant to be exciting, exhilarating and the best forum in the world to get feedback on how you are doing. Whether you plan it or not, you should always show up ready to go.  If you aren’t ready to go, push it off, an hour, a day (no more than a day) but deliver it. How Many Accounts Do You Have?

This is the best way to start a meeting where no one knows what is happening or what the problem is. It sets the tone and gets people into the right mindset. It’s not about justifying your position. Assigning blame. Or analyzing what did or did not go wrong. It’s about getting everyone on the same page before deciding to move forward.

Team-Ups

When was the last time you worked with someone on your team that you’ve been dying to work with for a while on a special project? It doesn’t even have to be a special project, just some project. There are people that I have worked with where I never got this opportunity, I kept pushing it off, thinking it would happen way later in our careers but something came up -I left, they left, moved to separate teams, pick your reason. Don’t wait for the next great team-up to happen, go make it happen.
