When you come back from vacation, there is a giddyness inside of you that wonders what has happened in your absence? Did the project proceed? Did more get done? Did less? What happened without you there? Were new ideas fleshed out and old ones discarded? Whatever it is, I hope it is always positive, the worst feeling is to come back and see that nothing has changed.

When in doubt, wire it up. I rarely use a bluetooth headset for an important call. For the price, the reliability isn’t always there. Sure it looks great walking around your kitchen with your headset on, making lunch while on a call, but what are you focusing more on at that moment in time? Your lunch or the meeting? You don’t need the fanciest mic and headphones, you need one that is consistent, reliable, durable and will be there when you need it. That next hill is always harder than the last one. Even if it is the same size, you’re already tired from the one you just finished climbing so it looks bigger, badder, like it’s going to hurt even more if you try. Or perhaps it is bigger, substantially bigger than what you are used to and/or have experience in the past. Whichever it is, there is a Hill and it is blocking your path, it could be made up of physical things – code, writing, work, whatever – or the less tangible, harder to measure – goals, people, success. I wrote this post on the Impostor Syndrome a while back and was trying about my thoughts on being an Impostor in general and helped me get out of it. When I look back, the moment I stopped thinking about it, was the moment I stopped thinking about it, or rather didn’t have the time to think about it and all I could do was work. Everyone is their own worst critic. I can pick out mistakes I made on a project, team or code a mile away. Heck I’m looking at flooring I laid down and there might as well be bright red ink painted around all the mistakes I made in what I installed.
