Context is Key

Like most people, I was glued to my tv watching the final season of Game of Thrones. This isn’t a long-winded commentary on what did and did not work, who should have been king, lived or died. This is about context. If you only watched the first six seasons you would say it was a brilliant run – slow-burning, character-driven, dripping with tension at every moment. I Need Help

If you’re a Leader, start saying this, start asking for it. Do it in small batches so you get comfortable with it but keep doing it. It’s not going to be make you look weak. It’ll show what you need from your team is as important as what they need from you. Thinking you need to go it alone, no one is with you, it’s you against the world, is the mentality that leads to failures in leadership and subsequently the teams themselves. The teams that succeed are the ones with a leader that realizes – they can’t do it

Get Yourself a Mantra

If you don’t have one, you need one. It’s a set of words, a song, a video, a poem, whatever you want it to be. But it brings you back from the brink, back from exhaustion, back from fear, picks you up when you are down, gives you the kick to get started. When everyone else has given you up, it’s the one little thing that forces you back into the driver seat to do what we’ve been needing you to do since Day One. Take the Initiative and Lead.

The Daily Complains

Yes, not Complaints, but Complains. Can you go a whole day without complaining? Are you complaining day in and day out about the same thing? Are you willing to do anything about it or just keep complaining about it? If you want to keep complaining about it, no need to share with everyone, you made the choice, find a room, vent away.
