Instead of saying this before every call, perhaps something different…

Most conferencing platforms have a “sound check” piece built into them where you can validate your settings in advance. When you have a computer with a webcam, speakers, separate mic and stereo port, this can be a welcome addition.

Log into each meeting a bit early, save five minutes, and perform your sound check.

When other people start arriving, instead of saying “Can you hear me?” – go right to “Hey, how’s it going?”

It has the same effect, but gets the conversation starts sooner and if you’ve done your sound-check right, you don’t need to worry about whether they can hear you.
