What Does Your Team Need this Year?

If you don’t know, now is the time to ask. This isn’t about team growth and development, this is about needs. What does your team NEED? Replacing aging hardware? Fixing the delivery process? Improving relations with the support team? Additional time to learn the domain and context? Growth is one thing, growth is important, but there are needs that exist, below the surface of growth, and if the needs are not attended to, growth will never occur, because the team is too focused on their needs to give growth the proper time of day.

Return to Sender

I’ve never been big on returns – probably because of everything it entails; Having the right receipts. Being online vs offline. Having the card that I bought it with. Knowing what was wrong with it. At the end of the day, all I want to happen is to give something back that was yours that I don’t want anymore (not because I’m trying to scam you, simply because it doesn’t fit or do what I said). If there ever were a way to standardize a process across all stores that would simplify our lives – this would be it.

Out of Memory Exception in Real Life

I think we are all feeling like this these days – taxed, weighted down – trying to do our best, not sure what to start on next because who knows what we are going to have to be working through next. If you’ve never had an Out of Memory exception, it occurs when your code has taken up all the memory on a server and there is nothing left to give back.  I haven’t had this happen in the cloud world but on-premise, I’ve seen it lots. The best thing about being out of memory is you can stop, think

All In vs All Around

There is a difference. All-Around means you are here, there, and everywhere.  It looks like you are participating, but really you are just “there”. All-In means you are not here, there, or everywhere.  It means you are where you need to be, where your team needs to be and you’re ready to perform your role to help your team succeed. We think “All-Around” is All-In because we’re doing lots of “stuff” when actually what we’re doing is holding the team back.

Have you Set your Team Goals yet?

If you haven’t, stop what you are doing and start thinking about this. Your team needs direction, they need purpose, they need to see the bigger picture in what will be for the upcoming year.  It doesn’t matter whether it’s the company’s or the team’s goals. Giving your team a purpose gives them something to fall back on whenever they hit a fork or roadblock in what they are doing? I could hack this together pretty quickly, but we’re trying to increase reusability this year. I know the Happy Scenario works, but building out some Edge Cases would help with
