Finding the Right Connection

I’ve been doing some plumbing work it’s been driving me nuts how many different connections there are between different taps, connectors, pipes, and diameters and then there are all the materials and how you work to connect them all. It feels as though I’m trying to put a jigsaw puzzle together in the hopes that I’m going to get the perfect alignment to happen but the fun part is, you can’t test it at all until everything is together, it’s impossible, literally impossible (unless you want water to be everywhere all over you and your house). The Team Killer

Name the one thing that is driving you nuts about your team, the one thing you wish you could change, the one thing that keeps you up at night and you wish you could change. Now, what are you doing about it? Maybe you can’t act and are waiting for someone to respond or do something.  Maybe you are holding back for whatever reason – but that right there – is the number one killer of teams – inaction. Metrics from the Top

Whenever work with a client, I always ask them what they want to get out of the system, what do they need to see happening, and what metrics matter? Sometimes I’ll get the answer – “We can’t talk about that now, we need to get this working.” Which is a big red flag to whatever process they have because that means they are managing my urgency, exception, and the next big fire that comes in.
