Team Events

Team Events need to start making a comeback. I don’t know when they went away, but dinner and a movie is not a team event. Doing things together, taking everyone away from the computer, having laughs and smiles about anything and everything. That’s what builds team culture, memories, moments, strung together – not just all about work. Team Events don’t have to cost money, and those are often the best ones. Team events are what bring people together, like anything else, and if you’re not having them, then you’re keeping your team apart.

Getting the Work Done

Work gets done when you sit down, put the timer on, put yourself into DND, and work the problem. We used to strive for focus time and the zone moment – now we don’t. But THAT was where all our work was getting done. So go back to it, find your ZONE moments, and get the work done that needs to get done.

Meeting Overload

Is the problem too many meetings or not enough time between meetings to do the work? It’s one or the other and until you ask the real question, you’ll never get to the right answer.

Craftsmanship vs the Factory

Everyone wants craftsmanship for factory prices. But craftsmanship isn’t built in a factory, so the two are always on opposite sides of the coin. The factory delivers the volume the craftsman can’t, but will never evolve into the delivery of a craft. You can be the factory or the craftsman; both are solid, but you can’t be both. You can be a craftsman who delivers at factory scale with work similar to your craft, but never will be. Pick one, move forward, stop trying to be both.
