Now, more than ever, in this discombobulation of a year, we all need to find someone to lean on. Someone to be your confidant. Someone to be your lead. Someone to stand with you. Whether work or in life, we all need someone, it’s human nature. And if you’re leading a team and you see someone has no one to lean on, be that person for them.

There is a phrase people don’t want to hear too much. Accountability. Years ago, I remember hearing my former team complaining about a session they had to have with an external trainer on “Accountability” and how it bothered them so much. “We were told we had to start owning what we worked on.” Even though they already were, the hidden message they were all reading was – “We have to start owning what we work on and everything that came before us” – which is impossible. In a time of everyone being remote, you can still inspire. It’s not as easy, but it can be done. The last however many years you’ve been leading have all been on site, with your team completely beside you, but now, no longer the case, you are separated and not always by choice. Whatever you have coming up in the week, take a look at what it is and plan it out for the week. But we don’t want to do that, because the prep is hard. There is a reason why prepared meals are so popular, because they do the hard work and all we have to do is the assembly. Once you know what you’re doing, the assembly is easy.
