Each person has a value they bring to the team. They might not know what it is or what their part in it all is, but it’s there, waiting to come out. That’s where you come in, the leader, the one with the plan, the one that sees how the parts fit together, the one that brings it all altogether. Your value is being the leader and that’s what the team needs to grow.
I don’t know what happens when the pot is constantly stirred. Does it actually not cook? I don’t think it will burn, but does it go anywhere? Does it have time to do anything? Can it get better? We are assigned groups, divisions, departments, sections, and any other name you can come up with. But have you ever been on a team before? Not everyone has, but the moment you are, you’ll never want to leave it.
If you want to grow, develop new skills, and figure out what is wrong with the old ones. You’re going to have to get uncomfortable, otherwise, it’ll never happen. Falling down, messing up, making mistakes – these are all uncomfortable acts that we are all resistant too. But when we let them happen, we grow.
When you look at a team, you have to look at the potential, where they are, where they could go, what they can accomplish, what they can achieve, what they are made of, and what someday, at some point, together they will do. If you start with that point of reference in your mind, you can take them anywhere.
