Your Team is not in Your Backyard

You can read pretty much any article on leadership and team culture these days and they all say the same thing… “Surround yourself with the best people so you can raise your game and become even better.” I’ve been stymied by this statement over the past few years because this statement suggests that you must be in arms reach of these people all day long, interacting with them on a daily basis and collectively focused on what neverending goal towards AWESOMENESS. Don’t Fall for the Blame Game

It’s easy to play the blame game. I did this because someone else did this and it’s not my fault. I’m not going to try to fix these bugs because no one else is working on their list. I told everyone what would happen and now here we are. Not my idea and yet here we are. It’s a whole other game to take the hit and keep on moving. Do you Need a Business Card?

I was at an event a few weeks ago where I was asked if I had a Business Card. To which I responded No. I could get them printed up for a small cost but then I’d have to carry them around with me, have them on my desk, and when some minor detail changed, have them re-printed up again only to have a new box of firestarter sitting on my desk. The problem with Business Cards is that they don’t tell the whole story of who you are as a person, what you offer and where you are going. So

The Anatomy of a Startup

Think of an idea (don’t get caught up in the greatness or market potential of the idea) Implement the Idea (create a prototype, experiment to see if it can work, try, try again) Find a Market (either through Social Media, your neighbours, family, and friend) Sell It (maybe for monetary value or via barter) Do it all over again (because that’s what you do) It’s that simple, don’t get caught up in the hype or the what-ifs, start small and find passion and drive in what you have created.
