Before It Becomes a Problem

We all can see problems before they actually “become” a problem. We all see the signs and know where it is going to lead. But we all don’t do something, anything about it. It’s easier to not do something if the first person you talk to doesn’t listen. It’s easier to tell yourself it’s not a problem if the second person ignores you. It’s easier to sulk away when the third person laughs at you. It’s much harder to open the bug, do the work, check it in and not say word with the only customer appreciating your work.

Pressure for Nothing

We’ve all been on the highway, driving in our own lane, minding our own business making our way to our destination when all of a sudden we have someone come up from behind and start getting closer and closer. And from there the pressure starts to mount. To go a little faster. To look back and see what the other person is doing. To second guess ourself if we are doing anything wrong. Great vs Meh

Whether it’s people, products, projects, teams or leaders. Everyone will agree we all want what’s Great. For our customers, for our team, for our delivery, for everything. But most of the time we settle for Meh because it’s cheaper and faster and those are our driving metrics. Change is a Battle

It’s a monster standing in front of you surrounded by all your fallen allies. It’s waiting with nostrils flaring for you to come up and take a swipe. When you put everything into your first punch and swing and miss, it’s there laughing at you while holding you down. The Updates you didn’t ask for?

Software is now built around updates. No one ships a product without knowing how they will process updates to your device or desktop. When windows first started patching online, it drove everyone nuts, there were bugs to work out and they were sometimes painful. Now, updates are a fact of life. I buy a new video game the day it comes out and I install it two hours before I want to play it so it can download the latest updates.
