Reflections at the Barber

We don’t stare at the mirror often enough unless we are forced to. Every noticed when you get a haircut and there’s that awkward silence between you and your barber/hairdresser when you’re just staring at the mirror. Contemplating. Pondering. Wondering. Thinking about who is staring back at you in the those few moments of silence. It’s a not a complex thing to do – but it does require introspection, thought and the willingness to be our harshest critic – combined will always make us think about how we can become more.

Thankful Leadership

In a world of texting and social media – we simply don’t say it enough anymore. This isn’t about writing cards with long stories of your life and times together. This isn’t about whether you volunteer to do a job on your own or get paid to it. This is about recognizing the efforts that someone put in, whether misguided or not and simply thanking them for their showing up. Want to know the easiest secret to being a great leader? Say Thank you, mean it, don’t just say it, mean it – start there.

Give them the Demo they Need, not the One that they Want

Ask anyone what their problem is and they will tell you exactly how they want to solve it and make it go away. I could easily come up with a few of my own problems and solutions to them, but their wrong. It’s not that I don’t trust myself, It’s not that I don’t trust myself, it’s that they are framed by own view as to how I perceive the problem. In that frame, whether I want to accept it or not, I have already inferred a number of assumptions important to me, but perhaps not relevant to the problem
