The Distraction Subtraction

I’ve taken to using those productivity timer tools of late, being a little weary of what they offer. And what they offer is great. The one I am big on these days is Strick Workflow because it is so simple.  It’s a Chrome extension, so easily installed across my various profiles and it has one job (but does two); Block access to sites for x period of time. Microsoft and LinkedIn and SlideShare – Oh My!

I don’t typically write about industry related news, although I have a couple in my Trello that are waiting to be written so there could be a few coming. However, yesterday’s announcement of Microsoft buying LinkedIn was something that I had to drop a line on as I heavily use LinkedIn on a daily basis and I practically live on Microsoft software. The PD Day

I loved these as a kid – PD Days – the extra day that would pop up here or there on your calendar, sometimes at the last minute giving you a whole extra day to sleep in, play lego, goof off, whatever. For those in Education – they stand for Professional Development Days – from Google. PD days in the school calendar recognized that teachers needed time during the school year to hone their skills, improve practice, and stay current with changes related to teaching and learning. I don’t see this much in software, you hear about, sometimes it takes shape for
