The Day after the Demo

There is a feeling of calm – it’s done, you did it – it’s over, hopefully it was well received. Hopefully there were some bugs that popped up (because that means you’re not done). Just In Case Coding

You wouldn’t put a cast on a completely healthy leg – just in case you broke it later that week would you? Probably not. So don’t fall into the trap of doing extra coding – “just in case they want this or they want to do this or someone asks for this”. There is a line between accepting edge cases into your code and embarking on “just in case coding”. If you are using the wording – “just in case” – it’s probably that type of coding.

Getting Better vs Looking Better

There is a difference between getting better and looking better. When you are getting better – you are focused on your team, their growth, their skills, their objectives, delivering the work that you do – in doing so you might have to change gears on the fly, you might have to shift your approach, you might have to try out new ideas. Bottle Up the Good

We are at a time in our lives where things are not going as great as we wish they would be (or maybe should have been). Form vs Function

My level of anxiety, worry, spidey sense and big flashing red alarm warnings starts going off when I’m in the midst of a heavy presentation only to have someone at the back ask the following question. “Is this the right template that we should be using?” At that point, I want to stop presenting and look around the room to get a feel for what is being said. Is the “beauty and prettiness” of what is being presented more valuable than the function of what is actually being presented. If everything else being presented was garbage would we be just
