Finding Your Goals

There are a number of things out there that you can do. But only some you can do well. And only some you can spend the time to learn and grow at. And only very few can you achieve. You’ll be drawn into many areas over your career as people think you are “great” and “built to do this” but if it clashes with your end goals, with where you want to be in the end. All it will do is anger you and leave you frustrated. Take the time, to find what it is, you really want to do.

Two Questions To Always Be Asking

In case you are confused about what you are working on or the direction you are headed in there are two questions you should always be asking of yourself and your team. What is the problem we are trying to solve? How does the solution benefit the customer? If you are always answering those questions with the customers interests in your mind, you are on the right path. Any missteps you make in between will be forgiven if you’re always, always clear on your direction formulating around those two questions.

Your Strongest Supporter

Will always be your customer. If you’re not approaching each project with them as a partnership, then you will only ever get half of the value from it could potentially be. Don’t hide from them. Don’t keep them out of the loop. Don’t gang up on them to have a vote. Bring them onto the team. Invite them to the discussions. Move the project forward faster with them, then without them. They’re waiting.

Where are you most Creative?

I’ve become enamoured with this question after having it been asked of me. Here’s the depressing part, I know the place per se, but can’t get there all the time (I can get there 15% out of the year, but that might even be a lot). So where do I go from here?
